Alexis Zambrano is a Mexican-American artist who develops his work revolving around multiple but converging axes: studies of space through architecture, the collecting of culturally rich antiques, the spirituality that entails the different systems of beliefs, and the trajectory of objects from the private to the public and vice versa. His works are created from pieces he has accumulated since his formative years and up to the present day rarities, art objects and unwanted antiques from dissolved heritages, obsessing over the transformation of religious objects across cultures: from temples, to exhibition rooms of iconic artworks and even images and particular moments from social networks, questioning the ways in which Western institutions commodify and colonize the sacred.
His most recent group of works delve into the longstanding and continuing fascination that has historically drawn humans towards communal life and the interpretation of celestial events, leading to the emergence of links between the earthly and the celestial, exploring the polarities of existence: the micro and the macro, the universal and the personal, the earthly and the celestial.
Zambrano’s recent projects include artist residencies at Mildred’s Lane in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, US; and Palazzo Monti in Brescia, IT; “Transatlantico” a group exhibition at MANA Contemporary, Jersey City, US; “The Shape of Time” a solo exhibition at PEANA, Monterrey, MX;“Fifty Years in Hollywood” at PINTO International, Manila, PH; and “Third of All” at Gericke + Paffrath, Düsseldorf, DE. Zambrano has participated in various art fairs including Zona MACO in Mexico City, MX and The Armory Show, NY, US.
